Breakdown and accident help around Gatwick

Call for breakdown recovery or accident recovery. Tell us the terminal, car park, level, keys and access restrictions.

Our recovery service covers suitable landside locations where access has been confirmed. We do not offer airside recovery. Tell us about barriers, height limits, parking levels and key arrangements before booking.

Tell us whether you are at a car park, hotel or approach road. Landside access still needs permission and a suitable loading position.

Where cars actually stop at Gatwick

The terminal and parking area matter as much as the postcode. Give the exact site name and level so we can plan access.

  • Long Stay North and Long Stay South, after a holiday's worth of standing still
  • Meet and greet and off-airport compounds around Charlwood, Lowfield Heath and Povey Cross
  • The North and South Terminal forecourts, where a car goes quiet on the drop-off
  • The M23 spur from junction 9 and its airport approach roads
  • Hotels along the A23 and around Longbridge and Povey Cross roundabouts
  • Perimeter Road and the staff car parks

A car left parked can have a flat battery, but not every failure to start is a battery fault. We offer battery assistance where suitable and recovery when the vehicle needs a garage.

Back from your flight to a dead car

If your car will not start in an official Gatwick car park, use a car-park help button to ask the parking team about jump-start assistance. If further help or recovery is needed, tell us the terminal, car park name and level. Include the parking provider, key arrangements and any height or access restrictions.

Gatwick parking assistance information

A successful start does not diagnose the fault. Ask the person assisting whether further checks or recovery are needed before driving.

Height limits and access rules are not the same in every car park here. Some are fine for a recovery truck and some are not, and a few want the vehicle brought out to a meeting point. Ring first and we will work out which yours is.

One practical point. Car park charges carry on running for as long as the vehicle sits there. A car that will not start is usually worth moving sooner rather than later.

The M23 and the Gatwick spur

The spur from junction 9 into the airport has no hard shoulder. Neither does the M23 itself between Merstham and Crawley, where the hard shoulder became a running lane.

On a motorway, reach a place of relative safety if you can and switch on your hazards. Leave the vehicle only if it is safe, using the side away from traffic, and wait away from the carriageway. If you cannot get out safely, stay belted in and call 999 for the police. Follow the official guidance before arranging recovery.

Questions

Gatwick questions

Can you collect a car from a Gatwick car park?
Collection depends on the car park, vehicle and access. Tell us the level, barriers and height limit. We confirm a safe plan; do not move a damaged vehicle yourself.
My car will not start in the long stay. What do I do first?
If your car will not start in an official Gatwick car park, use a car-park help button to ask the parking team about jump-start assistance. If further help or recovery is needed, tell us the terminal, car park name and level. Include the parking provider, key arrangements and any height or access restrictions.
Do you work airside?
Our recovery service covers suitable landside locations where access has been confirmed. We do not offer airside recovery. Tell us about barriers, height limits, parking levels and key arrangements before booking.
I have a flight to catch. Can you deal with the car without me?
Sometimes, if keys and access are sorted out first and the car park allows it. That has to be agreed before you fly rather than from a departure lounge.
Where can the car be taken?
Home, your own garage, a dealer, or somebody's driveway. Say so on the phone. Car park charges keep running while it sits there, so moving it sooner usually costs you less.
