Reigate in one paragraph
The A217 runs north out of the town and climbs Reigate Hill onto the North Downs, meeting the M25 at junction 8. The A25 runs east to Redhill and west towards Betchworth and Dorking.
The town itself is older and narrower than Redhill, with a high street, a tunnel under the castle grounds and a lot of on-street parking. None of that is designed around a recovery truck.
Reigate roads and collection points
- Reigate Hill and the A217 climb up to M25 junction 8
- The high street, Bell Street and the town centre parking
- The A25 out through Betchworth and towards Dorking
- Woodhatch and Meadvale on the south side of the town
- The station and Priory Park, where cars sit for a full day
- Reigate Heath and the lanes around it, where there is no pavement to stop on
Reigate Hill and the motorway
On a motorway, reach a place of relative safety if you can and switch on your hazards. Leave the vehicle only if it is safe, using the side away from traffic, and wait away from the carriageway. If you cannot get out safely, stay belted in and call 999 for the police. Follow the official guidance before arranging recovery.
On the A217, tell us whether you are on Reigate Hill, approaching junction 8 or elsewhere on the road. Give your direction of travel.
Describe any warning lights, loss of power or visible damage. Do not keep driving an overheating or damaged vehicle to find a more convenient collection point.
Move off the running lane if possible, switch on your hazards and leave the vehicle only if safe. If you cannot reach safety and are in danger, call 999. On the motorway, follow the guidance below.
Collections around the North Downs
For a collection around Reigate Hill, Box Hill or the surrounding lanes, give a road name and a nearby landmark. A map pin can help distinguish similar lanes.
Tell us whether the vehicle is on the road, in a lay-by or on private land. Describe slopes, narrow entrances and any permission needed to enter.
Bikes go on the deck upright and strapped, never on a rope, which is covered on the motorbike recovery page.
Narrow streets and low ceilings
Two practical things about Reigate. The town centre streets are tight, so exactly where a car has stopped changes how a truck gets to it. And multi-storey car parks have height barriers a recovery truck will not fit under.
Tell us about both before booking. We need to confirm whether a safe collection is possible; do not move a damaged vehicle yourself to make room.
What we come out for in Reigate
- Breakdown recovery, town centre or halfway up the hill

- Van and 4x4 recovery subject to vehicle weight, loading and access checks
- Motorbike recovery, with loading and restraint checks for the actual bike

Reigate is a short hop across from the A23, so it is a local job rather than a distance one.
