We agree the job and price before setting off. Any additional work is explained and agreed with you first.

  • No breakdown cover needed.
  • Cash, bank transfer or PayPal.
  • 24/7, day or night.

What a recovery price is built from

Call for a breakdown or accident recovery quote. For planned collections, see vehicle transport. An enquiry becomes a booking only when we confirm the job, availability and agreed price with you.

Four things decide what a job costs. None of them are complicated and none of them are hidden.

Where you are

Getting to you is part of the price, not a separate line that appears later. A car on the A23 at Salfords and a car at the far end of Crawley are different runs.

Where the vehicle is going

The distance from where it is to where it needs to be. Your driveway, your own garage, a dealer or a body shop. Tell us the destination when you ring and it is in the figure.

What it takes to load

A car that rolls and steers can be easier to load using a suitable method. A vehicle with locked wheels or damaged steering needs its loading method and access checked before acceptance.

Access counts here too. A tight yard, a multi-storey with a height barrier, a verge on a bend. All of those make a job longer than a flat driveway does.

When it is

Timing can affect our price. Tell us when the job is needed and we include any out-of-hours charge in the agreed quote.

What is included

  • Coming out to wherever the vehicle is
  • Loading it, strapping it down and getting it secure
  • The journey to the address you gave us
  • Unloading at the other end
  • The quote itself, which costs nothing whether you book or not

What can change the figure

A change to the agreed scope can affect the quote. We explain the extra work and agree its price with you before carrying it out. Examples include:

  • A vehicle that turns out to be in a different state from the one described
  • No keys, which stops a car being steered or taken out of park
  • Winching from a ditch, a verge or a field rather than off a road
  • Access that is genuinely awkward, like a barrier or a blocked-in bay
  • Waiting around because nobody is there with the vehicle

Tell us where the vehicle is, what has happened and where it needs to go. We agree the job and price before setting off. If the location, vehicle condition or requested work changes, we explain any extra work and agree the price with you before carrying it out.

Why there is no price list here

Because a list would be a guess about your job, and a phone call is not.

A price list that is simple enough to publish is usually wrong by the time it meets a real breakdown. One that is accurate is so full of conditions that nobody reads it. Neither helps you at the roadside.

You may have seen average figures on comparison sites and directories. Treat those as background rather than as a quote. They do not know where you are, what the vehicle is doing, or where it needs to end up.

So the deal here is simple. Ring, describe the job, and get a real number for it before anything moves.

How a price is worked out

Where you are, where the vehicle is going, and what it takes to load it. We agree the job and price before setting off. Any additional work is explained and agreed with you first.

Paying

Cash, bank transfer or PayPal. Sorted out at the end of the job rather than before it, and there is no deposit to get a truck moving.

The person who gives you that figure works for the firm that turns up, not a call centre. There is more about how that works if it matters to you.

No cover, no problem

You do not need breakdown cover to use a recovery firm. Plenty of people pay once for the job they have rather than every year for the ones they might.

Broken down with no breakdown cover? What to do

Why nobody can quote you off a price list

If you want the reasoning rather than the quote, there is a longer piece on what actually decides the cost of a recovery in Surrey. This page is for getting a figure for your job. That one is for understanding where the figure comes from.

Questions

Price questions

How much does car recovery cost?
It comes down to where you are, where the vehicle is going, what it takes to load, and when. You get a figure for your actual job on the phone, before anybody sets off.
What is the average cost of a vehicle recovery?
Averages get quoted a lot and they are not much use to you. A short local tow and a motorway job at night are not the same work. Ring and get a figure for the one you have.
How much does it cost to tow a car to a garage?
Distance is part of it, and so is whether the car still rolls and steers. Both change the job. You are told the figure before the truck moves.
Is there a call-out fee on top of the price?
Not a surprise one. Coming out to you is part of the figure you are quoted, not an extra that turns up on the bill afterwards.
What is the minimum for a short tow?
There is a floor, because even a short job means a truck and a driver coming out. You are told what it is for your job when you ring, not after.
Do you charge more at night or at weekends?
Timing can affect our price. Any out-of-hours charge is included in the quote we agree for your job before dispatch.
Does a non-runner cost more?
It can. A car that will not roll or steer takes longer to get onto the deck, and sometimes needs the winch. Say so on the phone and it goes into the quote.
What do the AA and the RAC charge for recovery?
They publish their own rates, and for non-members it is usually a one-off roadside price. Check their own sites for the current figure rather than trusting a number on ours.
Do I pay a deposit?
No. Nothing up front, and no charge for giving you a price in the first place.
