Jump Start and Flat Battery Help in Horley

Clicking, dim lights or no response can indicate a battery problem. We check whether assistance is suitable; a jump start does not guarantee a repair.

  • More than one driver, so a truck can be free when you ring.
  • No breakdown cover needed.
  • Cash, bank transfer or PayPal.
  • 24/7, day or night.
  • Price agreed before we set off.

When it is the battery

The signs are fairly consistent. The dash lights go dim when you turn the key. You get a rapid clicking from under the bonnet. Or the whole car is dead and nothing lights up at all.

The usual causes are just as familiar. Interior light left on overnight. A run of short journeys that never let the battery recharge. A cold snap on a battery that was already tired. Or a car that sat still for a fortnight while you were away.

Battery condition, time parked and electrical loads can affect starting. Describe the symptoms rather than assuming the battery is the only cause.

When it is not the battery

If the engine turns over strongly but does not start, another fault may be involved. It needs diagnosis; repeated boosts may not help.

If it starts and then stalls, a charging-system or other fault may be present. Have it assessed rather than attempting to drive until it stops again.

If it goes flat again every few days, something is draining it or the battery has had it. Either way you want a diagnosis, not a jump start every morning.

In any of those cases the honest answer is to get the car to a garage. Discuss breakdown recovery; we need to confirm a suitable truck and loading method before accepting it.

How it works

What happens when you call

  1. Tell us where you are

Call or text with the location, what you are driving and what it is doing. A map pin is perfect if you have one.

  2. Get the price first

We agree the job and price before the truck sets off. Any additional work is explained and agreed with you first.

  3. The truck comes to you

Loaded properly, strapped down, and taken to your home, your garage or wherever you need it.

Come back to a dead car at Gatwick?

If your car will not start in an official Gatwick car park, use a car-park help button to ask the parking team about jump-start assistance. If further help or recovery is needed, tell us the terminal, car park name and level. Include the parking provider, key arrangements and any height or access restrictions.

Gatwick’s parking assistance information

If it still will not start, or it needs to go home rather than sit there, ring us. Access rules differ between the car parks, so it is worth a call before you make any other arrangements.

Car recovery at Gatwick Airport

What it costs

Vehicle instructions, battery condition and the symptoms determine whether a jump start is appropriate. Who turns up.

How a price is worked out

Where you are, where the vehicle is going, and what it takes to load it. We agree the job and price before setting off. Any additional work is explained and agreed with you first.

A jump start and a recovery are two different jobs at two different prices. You are told which one you are getting, and what it costs, before anybody sets off.

Never attempt repairs on a motorway. Before considering a jump start somewhere safe, read your exact vehicle handbook and how to jump start a car, and when not to first.

Questions

Jump start questions

Can you jump start a car in the rain?
A jump start may be possible, but the equipment must be protected from water and the working conditions must be safe. Follow the vehicle and equipment instructions. If in doubt, ask for assistance.
Can you jump start a diesel car?
A suitable diesel may be jump started using compatible equipment. Tell us the make, model and symptoms so the required power source and manufacturer instructions can be checked.
Can you jump start a petrol car from a diesel?
Fuel type alone does not establish compatibility. Check both vehicle manuals, system voltage, permitted donor use and the equipment rating before connecting leads.
Can you jump start a car with a completely dead battery?
It depends on the battery and fault. A damaged, leaking or suspected frozen battery must not be jump started. A failed battery or charging fault needs diagnosis; a boost cannot guarantee a repair.
Can you jump start a car with a bad alternator?
A boost may start the engine, but it does not repair a charging fault. If the vehicle may stop again, arrange assessment and suitable recovery instead of relying on another jump start.
Can you jump start an automatic car?
Many can receive a jump start, but follow the exact model’s handbook and designated connection points. Gearbox type alone is not enough to choose the procedure. Do not substitute a bump start.
Can you jump start a motorcycle from a car?
Only consider it if both manufacturers allow the arrangement and the voltage and equipment are suitable. Follow the motorcycle’s connection and donor-engine instructions. Ask for assistance if these are unclear.
Can you jump start a van with a car?
Check both manuals and the power source rating. A van may require equipment the donor car cannot safely provide. We confirm suitability before agreeing assistance.
